One stream, every site
This is not the same as opening each cam site's own browser broadcaster. Do that in three tabs and your computer encodes your camera three times and uploads three separate streams, so three sites need three times the upload and three times the work from your computer.
Here the browser encodes your camera once and uploads one stream to Stream-Split, and we send it on to every site you've added. Your upload and the load on your computer stay the same whether you stream to one site or five.
How to go live from the browser
On your dashboard, the first thing it asks is how you want to broadcast. Pick In Browser.
How do you want to broadcast?
Then click Enable camera & mic and allow access when Chrome asks. While all your sites are Off, this only starts the preview. If a site is already set to Live or Away, broadcasting starts as soon as your camera is on.
Camera & microphone access
No one can see or hear you until a site is set to Live.
Enable camera & mic- Check the preview. Click the ⚙ button on the preview to open the camera and microphone settings. Pick your camera and microphone there, and watch the microphone level move when you talk. Settings such as zoom or exposure appear there too when your camera supports them.
- Add your sites. If you haven't yet, add each cam site with its own stream key. You only do this once.
- Press Go Live. Broadcasting starts on its own, there is no separate start button. Set a site to Away or Off whenever you like; once every site is Off, the broadcast stops.
Keep the broadcast smooth
- Check your connection first. Our connection test shows whether your internet can carry 720p from where you are.
- Use Chrome on a laptop or desktop. Edge works too. If your browser can't broadcast, the dashboard tells you straight away.
- Free up the camera first. On most computers only one app can use the webcam at a time. If the camera list is empty or the preview stays black, close video-call apps and OBS, then reload the dashboard and click Enable camera & mic again.
- Keep the tab open. Closing it ends the broadcast. Switching to another tab can lower the quality in some browsers, so click Pop out preview first: it floats on top of your other windows while you read chat.
- If your connection drops, the preview shows "Connection lost — reconnecting…" and tries to reconnect by itself. If it can't, the dashboard tells you and you can try again.
- Broadcast from one place at a time. Stop OBS before you start in the browser, and close any other dashboard tab that is broadcasting.
FAQ
- Do I still need a stream key?
- You still add each cam site's own stream key on the dashboard, once, so Stream-Split can send to that site. What you skip is the OBS part: there is no Stream-Split server address or key to paste anywhere.
- Can I use Away with the browser?
- Yes. The Live, Away and Off buttons work the same way as with OBS, for all your sites at once or one site at a time.
- Don't cam sites already let me broadcast from the browser?
- Many have their own browser broadcasting, but it only goes to that one site, so using several means one upload per site. Here one browser tab sends one stream, and Stream-Split delivers it to every site you've added.
- Which webcam can I use?
- Any camera your browser can use, such as a laptop's built-in camera or a USB webcam. If you have more than one, pick it in the ⚙ settings on the preview, and do the same for the microphone.
- Do the sites still show me as live?
- Yes. Each site receives a normal live stream and shows you live as usual, and your dashboard shows every site's status, the same as with OBS.
